After training for 4 years, Karen's graduate collection was sold through Craft Centre Cymru. A student placement gave Karen her first job as a technical developer where she trained on Gerber and worked primarily for Marks and Spencer on Lingerie and Soft Separates.

She moved to London from Wales and after freelancing for 2 years, took on a quality control and grading position with a sportswear company, who eventually became Elle Sports London. She became Production Manager and worked with suppliers all over the UK and Europe.

She moved to the Midlands in the early 2000s and retrained as a teacher, starting with adult recreational, Schools Link, City and Guilds, then moving into FE in 2005, where she developed a cross-discipline Foundation Degree for NEW College.

Karen joined BCU in 2014 after a short stint as a visiting lecturer. She led the International Summer School for three years and encourages students to seek global opportunities with field trips to France and Italy, as well as opportunities with Erasmus.
