Meet the Head of Computing

Professor Adel Aneiba has been appointed permanent Head of Computing. Professor Aneiba joined BCU in November 2016 after gaining his PhD from Staffordshire University, and working for UNESCO and Benghazi University in Libya.

While at BCU, Professor Aneiba has been an active researcher, being returned in the last REF, worked closely with enterprise and industry, and lectured on a number of subjects.

Since 2016, Adel has been Head of the Department of Networks and Cyber Security, and more recently acting Head of School of Computing and Digital Technology.

Professor Adel Aneiba said: "Birmingham City University has a long and proud history of delivering Computing courses, with strong connections to wider communities nationally and internationally. Since starting at BCU, I have been inspired by our talented multi-disciplinary staff, attractive academic portfolio, long-standing industry links, interesting applied research areas, and diverse community.”

“I’m excited to be offered the opportunity to continue to deliver BCU’s mission and to push our educational trajectories over the coming years by enhancing our provision to meet our targets and ambitions.”

Deputy Dean of CEBE Professor Andy Aftelak said: "We all find ourselves at a moment of change in the higher education sector, which is being measured to demonstrate excellence in the TEF and B3 metrics. It is more important than ever that we demonstrate our passion and care for the students through their collective attainment while they are in our care at BCU and in the jobs they move on to when they leave.

"I have confidence in our staff to deliver on our promise, and I have great confidence in Adel as a leader who will focus on delivering excellence in Learning and Teaching, Research and Engagement with Enterprise. Please join me in congratulating Adel on his new role and please support him in that role in every way you can."
