Islah Ali-MacLachlan

Islah is a Senior Lecturer and Course Director of Sound and Multimedia Technology BSc (Hons), lecturing across a broad range of subject areas including production, live sound engineering and musical instrument design. His research covers the use of signal analysis techniques applied to musical playing styles. He is also a busy musician and sound engineer, each having a positive effect on his teaching and research work.

Having originally headed the product design team at TEE before lecturing in music technology, his degree, industrial and academic experience in product design, computer aided design, visualization and all aspects of the product development process have proved useful both for teaching and consultancy work.

Before joining Birmingham City University he lectured in design at Glasgow School of Art and was Course Director of Product Design Engineering at Strathclyde University, regarded as Scotland's top engineering faculty. His industry experience includes the position of Business Design Advisor for the DTI through Business Link Shropshire and design consultancy and management roles in sectors from audio product to leisure and military industry sectors.

He is currently also involved in music festival management and heads a team of live and recording engineers who work with internationally renowned traditional musicians.
