Haydn String Quartet No.19 in C minor, Op.17 No.4 (H. 3/28)
Purcell Fantasias in 4 parts
Britten String Quartet No.2 in C, Op.36 (1945)

“Belgium, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany? So what! What separates us? A lot of things! What unites us? Even more! Spontaneity, self-doubt, fun, perfection, stress, fear, adrenaline, basic trust, joy, madness, and time and again: music, music, music.”  So say the Adelphi Quartet, who have won numerous prizes and awards at major competitions including the 2022 Wigmore Hall String Quartet Competition.

Come and hear for yourself as they play a genial quartet by Haydn, Fantasias by Purcell written originally for viols but not published until 1927, and Britten’s Second Quartet, which celebrated the 250th anniversary of Purcell’s death in 1945 and is something of an homage, particularly in the massive Chacony finale.

Running time approx. one hour and 45 minutes.
