Student accommodation in Birmingham | The Old Fire Station

Wondered what it's really like living in student accommodation? Criminology student Caitlin shows us around her student digs over at the Old Fire Station.

Moving in with complete strangers can feel daunting. Having to share a bathroom or cook with people you don’t know can feel a bit scary. But living at uni is also incredibly exciting, with the chance to meet new people, make new friends and live independently. Student Caitlin shows us around her student digs over at the Old Fire Station in the video above.

The Old Fire Station is a central Birmingham property, conveniently located just a five minute walk from the City Centre. The Grade II listed building is ideal for students looking for city living in a unique setting, as it has lots of original features to admire.

Choosing the right student accommodation can be important as you'll be spending a lot of time here when you're not on campus. As Birmingham City University is centrally located in the city of Birmingham, we are able to boast an impressive range of accommodation options for our students to choose from.

Types of accommodation

If you choose to live in one of our student accommodation sites, you'll benefit from en-suite rooms, laundry facilities, security and much more. Should traditional student accommodation flats not be for you, the Students' Union also runs a student homes programme which allows you to live in private houses as opposed to shared flats. The number of rooms each private housing comes with varies, allowing you to potentially move in with friends. Private housing is available to all students irrespective of the academic year.

Availability

You may be worried about the availability of accommodation, however with our guaranteed accommodation scheme for 2022, there is no need to! If you apply for a course and are accepted by 31 August 2022, you will have a guaranteed room in one of our student accommodation blocks. All accommodation sites come with varied contract dates to suit you and your studies.

Making friends

Once you have been given a room and moved in, many of our accommodation providers hold social events for all different types of people no matter what you’re interested in. These social events will allow you to find your feet quite early on and make friends with those that live in the same building as you.

Location

With nearly all of our accommodation sites based in the city centre, socialising is just as easy as socialising in your accommodation, with the added benefit of having to pay no travel costs! The central location of the accommodation also brings you closer to the rest of the UK with transport links such as New Street Station, Digbeth Coach Station and the new HS2 rail network site just a short distance away!
