Robert at Mace

Quantity Surveying student Robert Orgill completed his placement year with Mace Group, a consultancy and construction company based in London. He worked as Assistant Quantity Surveyor, working on a £25 million building project for Sky Television.

“Having spoken to various people within the industry, it became apparent that first-hand experience was invaluable, helping to provide context to learning and providing a solid basis to carry on from. It allowed me to enter the industry early on and ask as many questions as possible, quickly growing my technical knowledge. 

“During my placement, I was part of the Commercial Team, responsible for procurement, tendering and contracts. This involved monthly valuations of on-site works, measurement and costing of drawings, issuing sub-contracts and liaising with contractors to agree particulars. I worked closely with clients to monitor project change, gave project team support, and was involved with the commercial management of works packages, programme and progress reviews.
