Phil Miller Collection

Philip Paul Brisco Miller (1949 –2017) was an English progressive rock/jazz guitarist and composer who was central to the Canterbury scene. Miller was a self-taught guitarist and formed his first band, Delivery, at age 17, which backed blues musicians playing at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. In the 1970s, he was a founding member of Matching Mole, Hatfield and the North and National Health.  In 1982 he formed the band ‘In Cahoots’ which he led until 2011, recording  12 CDs with a 13th issued posthumously.  With these bands Miller travelled and performed across Europe as well as in Mexico and Japan.

The Phil Miller Collection comprises mostly of his compositional work, LPs, CDs, and other ephemerals related to his artistic career.

The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire holds an annual Phil Miller Guitar Prize Competition in its Eastside Jazz Club for students and is awarded to the best performance interpretation of one of Miller’s compositions.
