Contemporary Chinese Art Market of China and the COVID-19

As everything, from exhibitions to art fairs, move towards online platforms, art institutions now become accessible to 24/7 and globally while remaining physically closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although technology can build virtue experiences, people still feel disconnected because art viewing and purchasing have strongly depended on in-person contact. COVID-19 uniquely positions art institutions to think about how they can present contemporary art during this lockdown-period, along with cultural engagement.

YAN Chao's research focuses on how COVID-19 affects contemporary Chinese art by observing changes in the art market, and what new challenges will contemporary art in China face in the new context.
