Graduate launches first children’s book

UNIVERSITY NEWS LAST UPDATED : 26 NOVEMBER 2013

A fine art graduate from Birmingham City University has released his first children's book, 'The Legend of Everwinter'.

Matthew Hill, a BA and MA Fine Art graduate and a Post Compulsory Education Art Trainee at the University, has illustrated the story whilst working on the project over the last year with his partner Tara Behan, who has written the book.

The couple are delighted to have had their book published by London based publishing company, Hampton Bond International.

Inspired by the popular Disney films, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books and J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings', 'The Legend of Everwinter' is set in a faraway land, and tells the magical tale of three courageous companions who set out on a heroic journey to fulfil an ancient prophecy. Overcoming mystifying challenges and treacherous conditions, the trio must work together to protect each other in a harsh, but stunning land.

Matthew and Tara's strong three-and-a-half-year relationship has resulted in the couple fulfilling life-long dreams and creating an exciting and greatly imaginative story. Suitable for young children, older children and even adults, 'The Legend of Everwinter' has a captivating storyline and exquisite illustrative detail, and every reader has their own favourite character.

On the achievement of their publication, Tara said: "It has always been my dream to have a book published and, at the age of 24, my dream has already come true! I have always wanted to be an author and it has been such an honour to work with Matthew on our first book together, as he is the best illustrator I know, and he has brought my story to life with his magical illustrations!"

On the use of his artwork, Matthew said: "I have always wanted my artwork to inspire others, and I am delighted that I have been able to use my artistic skills on such a rewarding project. Together, we have created a book for children that not only promotes good morals, but also encourages children to appreciate art and reading, and to use their imagination."

The 24-year-old couple hope to carry on creating inspiring and magical children’s books in the future.

'The Legend of Everwinter' by Tara Behan and illustrated by Matthew Hill, published by Hampton Bond International, is now on sale, priced at £3.99 and is available to buy from Hampton Bond and all major online and high street book retailers.
