Studio Culture project
2011—13 The aim of this project was to interrogate and reach an understanding of the prevailing provision, use and attitudes toward design studio culture and pedagogy, and emerging trends in the context of diminishing institutional funding, increasing institutional use of space charging, technological innovations, increasing student debt and increased SSRs within UK schools of architecture.
Key questions on how the design studio facilitated the formation of the cohort as a supportive teaching and learning community and how technology contributed to improved assessment and feedback. A secondary question was whether these in turn may enhance progression and retention. This was carried out in such a way to engage academics and students in contributing toward influencing and formulating policy both at a local and also at national level.
