Students collaborate with University of Birmingham for HS2 concept

Final HS2 winning concept

Birmingham School of Architecture and Design students recently embarked upon a collaborative project with the University of Birmingham School of Civil Engineering involving High Speed 2 (HS2).

The project, integrated as part of the taught curriculum, required working in mixed teams comprising of architecture and engineering students from both universities to develop an integrated proposal that could meet the needs of a real life client.

Final designs

The final designs were presented to a review panels that included representatives of HS2 Ltd on 19 November. Martin Short from HS2 selected the winning design by Hassan Al-Hashimi (Birmingham City University), Michal Palczewski (Birmingham City University) and Greg Stockbridge (University of Birmingham) based on its ‘simple, elegant response to the brief and economic use of materials.’ Jim Sloan, Senior Lecturer at Birmingham School of Architecture and Design said:
