When you join the library as a member you provide us with the personal information in order for us to facilitate your account.
If you are a student of BCU, the following personal information will be processed: name, title, address(es), phone numbers, BCU email address, course, BCU Student ID number, membership details including loan history & charge history, Primo VE (public user interface) login activities, BCU ID, which Resource Lists have been accessed via LTI (Moodle), library enquiries & space/tutorial booking details (where identifying information is given). The university debtor status for a student with a relevant debt flag will also be processed where applicable.
If you are a staff member of BCU, the following personal information will be processed: name, title, address(es), phone numbers, BCU email address, BCU Staff ID number, membership details including loan history & charge history, Primo VE (public user interface) login activities, date/time of accessing and/or editing Resource Lists, library enquiries & space/tutorial booking details (where identifying information is given).
If you are an external library member, the following personal information will be processed: Name, email address, address (with uploaded proof of address) and a headshot photo for your library card. Some external users cannot borrow books, however, for those that can borrow books we hold borrowing records. External library members apply with a photograph and copies of ID which are retained with their online application.
For Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) users – your university/college and university ID are processed in order to verify you are eligible to join via the SCONUL Access database.
For Royal College of Organists (RCO) members, your membership number will be processed for verification purposes.
For Alumni, we require proof of course completion in the form of your student number and year of completion.
The legal basis for using this personal information is ‘contract’ (which means the processing is necessary for the performance of a contract with you to take steps at your request to enter into a contract). Where other lawful bases / special conditions of processing do not apply, we will process your data on the basis of your explicit consent. This often applies for ‘special category data’ which includes information about your health (physical or mental), race, ethnic origin, religious or political beliefs, membership of a trade union and sexual orientation. However, there are other lawful reasons for BCU to process special category data, which includes for equal opportunities purposes, to prevent the loss of life or to defend legal claims.

The University carries out photography and filming on campus to commemorate events and for marketing purposes. As a visitor you may be photographed or filmed whilst on campus.
