About the Student Energy Advice Network

At Birmingham City University, we believe sustainability and social responsibility go hand in hand. In partnership with Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK), National Energy Action (NEA), Keele University, and funded by the Energy Redress Scheme, BCU is proud to introduce the Student Energy Advice Network (SEAN).

The initiative will empower students, staff and local communities to better manage their energy costs while creating valuable employment opportunities for students. Trained student energy advisors provide free, personalised support to fellow students, staff and members of the wider community. Advice will include practical ways to save energy, understand bills and tariffs, improve home comfort and reduce household energy consumption.

Through this scheme, we aim to deliver over 750 energy consultations annually, helping thousands of local households and students reduce fuel poverty, manage energy costs, and build a more sustainable future.

How we can help - our advice services

  • Detailed virtual property reviews using an online home energy auditing tool to evaluate thermal comfort and property efficiency.

  • Direct onward referrals to specialist fuel poverty charities for households requiring debt management or financial hardship support.
