RBC Repertory Big Band
This evening RBC's Repertory Big Band will play the music of Thad Jones, including some rare charts which were written by Thad for Harry James in the early 1960s.
Described as “one of the all-time greatest jazz trumpet soloists”, Thad Jones was also a composer and band leader noted especially for the harmonically rich arrangements and compositions he wrote for Count Basie and for the groundbreaking ensemble he co-led with drummer Mel Lewis from 1965.
The RBC Repertory Big Band prepares students for a life of playing large ensemble jazz music through themed projects exploring the work of particular composers and arrangers. Previous projects have focused on music by Oliver Nelson, Benny Carter and Sammy Nestico.
