Ludlow Song Young Composers
Join us for a free, early evening concert featuring some favourite English songs, alongside brand new compositions by this year’s LS Young Composers.
Five composers, all 25 and under, have been selected after a competitive, national open call to take part in the Ludlow Song Young Composers Workshop at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with Professor Julian Philips. Come and join us, to hear the first public performances of their new songs, all setting poetry in English for voice and piano.
Featuring baritone George Robarts (winner of the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music’s annual Lotte Lenya Competition 2025), the programme will also include a variety of well-loved songs from the English song tradition, which continue to inspire.
This year’s Young Composers are: Ben Pease Barton, George W Parris, Gregory May, Roseanna Dunn, and Tyler Zwink.
Tickets are free, and a great way to get a taste of the Ludlow English Song Weekend. LESW is an annual festival in Shropshire every April celebrating the golden period of English song from Hubert Parry to Benjamin Britten, taking in Ralph Vaughan Williams, Frank Bridge, Gerald Finzi and John Ireland along the way.
