Today’s lunch-hour concert features a trio of super-talented student musicians.  A stunning selection of art songs and operatic arias includes Cleopatra’s grief-stricken lament (from Handel’s Giulio Cesare), Duparc’s Soupir (Sigh) and Schumann in melancholic mood, interspersed with sparkling arias from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Verdi’s Masked Ball.  Then it’s over to Argentina for the jazzy rhythms of Astor Piazzolla’s nuevo tango, contrasted with a lyrical Nocturne by Burgmüller and James Sharif’s The Cliffs of Moah.

Jodie Lambert-Tandy is a 22-year-old Welsh soprano who is currently completing her final year at RBC, under the tutelage of Louise Crane. Whilst studying at the Conservatoire, recent operatic performances include La Paix Les arts florissant, Frantik The Cunning Little Vixen and Soprano 2 The Enchanted Pig. She also played Belinda Dido and Aeneas, Boy 1 Die Zauberflöte, Soprano 1 Suor Angelica, Soprano 1 Acis and Galetea and Soprano 1 Patience in RBC’s Opera Scenes. She is due to perform in the chorus of Massenet’s Cendrillon in March 2024. Jodie recently performed Poulenc’s Gloria conducted by Richard Nicholson. Upcoming events include St John’s Passion, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Haydn’s Little Organ Mass.

Erin Vinter is a violist in her third year at RBC, where she studies with Lucy Nolan. Erin has played with many orchestras and chamber ensembles, most recently performing across the Midlands with the International Film Orchestra and as a guest violist with the Gildas Quartet in October 2023. Erin played in Nicola Benedetti’s Decca Classics recording of Mascagni’s Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana and has been an Ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation since February 2023. She is this year’s CBSO Training Scheme violist.

James Hall is currently studying in his third year at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under the guidance of classical guitarist Mark Eden. He has taken part in masterclasses with several world-renowned guitarists such as Xuefei Yang, Alexandra Whittingham, and Marek Pasieczny. He plays a signature model Spanish guitar made by veteran luthier Javier Mengual.

Running time approx. 55 minutes.
