Forget cosy, festive cheer and revel in the devilish and demonic as skeletons rise from their coffins in Saint-Saëns’ Danse macabre, and Franck’s The Accursed Huntsman gets his just desserts. There is a soft centre, however, in Ravel’s scintillating Mother Goose suite, and the concert opens with a sleeping fairy, La Péri.
