Arnie Somogyi invites Karen Sharp: The Bridge

Exceptional talent Karen Sharp takes centre stage at this gig, channelling the spirit of Sonny Rollins's seminal recording, The Bridge at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire's Eastside Jazz Club. Sharp brings a fresh perspective to these iconic tracks, featuring timeless classics Without a Song, God Bless the Child, and the titular The Bridge.

A leading figure on the UK Jazz scene since 2000, Karen is well known and admired for her melodic, full-toned saxophone playing, winning the British Jazz Awards for best tenor saxophonist on numerous occasions and appearing as a nominee in the rising star category of the Downbeat Critics Poll for baritone sax in 2018 and 2019.

Immerse yourself in the brilliance of The Bridge, feeling the echoes of Rollins's innovative recording through Karen Sharp's inspired interpretation. This promises to be an evening where the rich history of jazz converges with the brilliance of one of the UK’s most talented saxophonists, creating an unforgettable concert experience.

The line-up features exceptional RBC alumnus Gareth Fowler, recently returned from New York, where he studied with world-renowned guitarist Rodney Jones at the Manhattan School of Music, and one of the UK's most in-demand and dynamic drummers - Winston Clifford.
