Jazz Orchestra - Thad Jones

RBC Big Band
Director Arnie Somogyi

Support Walsall Jazz Ensemble directed by alumnus Nick Dewhurst

Leading UK bass player and Conservatoire tutor, Arnie Somogyi leads RBC Big Band in a tribute to the great bassist, composer and bandleader Charles Mingus (1922-1979).

In 2012, Somogyi formed Scenes in the City and released the album The Man Who Never Sleeps for the centenary of Mingus’s birth. Now he brings his direct experience of having played with The Charles Mingus Big Band at Ronnie Scotts to Eastside Jazz Club and the senior students of RBC Jazz Orchestra.

They’ll play now canonised Mingus compositions such as, Boogie Stop Shuffle, Moanin', Sue's Changes and Sound of Love and more.

Running time approx. one hour and 45 minutes.
