Pianist and broadcaster Keelan Carew balances the piano with a broad interest in classical music education. Born and raised in Medway, Kent, Keelan studied at the RNCM with Dr Stephen Savage.
He made his concerto debut in 2018 with Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini in Southampton. From 2021 to 2024, Keelan led outreach at the Yehudi Menuhin School. He is the Founding Artistic Director of the Rainham (Kent) Piano Festival, and a co-founder of musician’s wellness platform Zenezen with Ashley Wass.
While a student, Keelan competed on the BBC’s University Challenge. This led to his presenting work with BBC Radio 3, presenting the series “Sounds Connected”, coverage of the BBC Proms, and the 2022 series “Piano Odyssey with Keelan Carew”. Through 2023 He regularly contributed to In Tune opposite Sean Rafferty and Katie Derham. Keelan is a frequent guest on Radio 4’s Add to Playlist, and R3’s This Classical Life and Record Review. Keelan now divides his time teaching, performing, broadcasting, presenting and producing accessible concerts for young people across the UK.
