City of Birmingham Choir - November Concert
The City of Birmingham Choir together with the Westminster Chamber Orchestra are delighted to be returning to the Bradshaw Hall with a sequence of works that reflect on the effects of time passing: time, which brings growth, healing, and change. The programme includes Bob Chilcott’s lively and wide-ranging Dances of Time and John Rutter’s settings of poems by Shakespeare and Campion in When Icicles Hang. The concert concludes with Joseph Haydn’s Mass in Time of War, also known as the Paukenmesse owing to its dramatic use of timpani in the Agnus Dei.
Chilcott Dances of time
Dances of Time is a diverse collection of five choral songs addressing different aspects of time. Texts ranging from biblical to twentieth century are set to Chilcott's attractive and characterful music, drawing on elements of dance forms in various styles.
