Schumann Liederkreis
Mozart Fuor del mar
Lu Zaiyi (陆在易) 桥、家、盼

Heartfelt Schumann, dramatic Mozart and Chinese art songs feature in today’s lunchtime recital.

Schumann described his song cycle Liederkreis as “my most Romantic music ever”. In twelve highly expressive songs he captivates with images of nature, moonlight and distant lands and a sense of being far from home. Mozart’s aria ‘Fuor del Mar’ is one of his finest arias and a highlight of his early opera Idomeneo. Jiyu Chen ends today’s concert with some of the finest contemporary Chinese art songs by leading composer Zaiyi Lu.

Tenor Jiyu Chen is currently studying for an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal and Operatic Performance at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He is generously supported by a Royal Birmingham Conservatoire scholarship and studies under the tuition of Jonathan Gunthorpe.

Running time approx. 55 minutes.
