Chenwei Zhang piano
Beethoven Piano Sonata No 32 in C minor, Op 111
Liszt Piano Sonata
Two towering monuments of piano repertoire feature in today’s concert by Chenwei Zhang. Beethoven’s very last sonata is a tour de force of powerful drama and graceful beauty that is both profound and poetic.
The second movement variations span serene elegance to some seriously jazzy syncopation and everything in between. Liszt’s revolutionary, single movement sonata is no less dramatic, with fistfuls of notes flying in every direction, it’s a genuine pianistic workout.
This concert lasts approximately 55 mins with no interval.
