Pianist Yinzhi Yuan in black and white

Yinzhi Yuan piano

Bach Prelude and Fugue in C sharp minor
Chopin Nocturne in B major
Medtner Fairy Tale in D minor
Rachmaninoff (arr. Chen) Adagio from Symphony No.2
Scriabin Piano Sonata No.5

Scriabin’s towering single-movement sonata was a companion piece to his rapturous orchestral Poem of Ecstasy.  Tempestuous and volatile one moment, dreamy and languid the next, it’s a landmark work for any pianist.  That’s quite a contrast to the reverential Bach, graceful Chopin and Medtner, and passionate Adagio from Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony in an arrangement by Sean Chen, that open the programme.

Chinese pianist Yinzhi Yuan is currently studying at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with Pascal Nemirovski. He is a prize-winner of many international competitions, including the 1st place of the International Medtner Competition at Heidelberg and the 3rd place of International Magnus Piano Competition.

He also won the 1st place in Chappell Medal Piano Competition and 2nd place in Kendall Taylor Beethoven Piano Competition - the most prestigious competitions held by the Royal College of Music.

He has performed concerts across UK and the continent, including London, Manchester, Salzburg, Heidelberg and Mallorca. He has been praised for his “dazzling virtuosity and maturity with an eclectic program” (Faxdepera, 2023).

In 2024 he graduated with a Master of Music in Performance degree from the Royal College of Music under the class of Professor Dina Parakhina.
