Harrison Birtwistle’s Donum Simoni MMXVIII, written in 2018 for Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra, provides a rousing opening to the evening. RBC Head of Brass Ed Jones will direct his students in a performance of 20th century Finnish composer Usko Merilainen’s Partita for Brass, and the RBC’s sensational saxophone department will be featured in Ball’s Chimera for saxophone ensemble.
