Grimethorpe Colliery Band in concert with Rex Richardson
"Music from Both sides of the Pond"
Featuring works from Malcolm Arnold, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Morton Gould, Leonard Bernstein, Peter Graham and Allen Vizzutti.
Grimethorpe Colliery Band are delighted to be presenting this concert with the International Trumpet Virtuoso Rex Richardson.
The concert entitled “music from both sides of the pond” will feature Rex performing the world Premiere of Peter Graham’s new trumpet Concerto entitled “Master of Suspense”. Rex will also perform the fiendishly difficult concerto “Three World Winds” by his great friend and fellow virtuoso Allen Vizzutti.
The concert will explore the close links between the US and the UK and will also feature works by Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Malcolm Arnold, Morton Gould and Leonard Bernstein. There will also be a few surprises too in this immense musical collaboration featuring the very best in Brass music.
Hailed in jazz circles as “a standout soloist with the power, range and flexibility to rival Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw,” (DownBeat Magazine, 2014) and in classical as “among the very best trumpet soloists in the world today,” (Journal of the International Trumpet Guild, 2011) and “One of the finest virtuosos of our time” (Brass Herald, 2018) and in Yamaha Performing Artist Rex Richardson was named the 2008 Brass Herald International Personality of the Year.
Having developed a reputation unique in the trumpet world for his combination of singular virtuosity, deep lyricism, and an emphasis on improvisation in classical as well as jazz idioms, Richardson is a committed champion of new music. He has presented the premiere performances of genre-busting concertos written for him by Peter Graham, Peter Meechan, Anthony Plog, Doug Richards, David Sampson, Andy Scott, James Stephenson, Allen Vizzutti, and Dana Wilson in thirty-eight countries.
