RBC Banda Brasileira
Popular music of Brazil with special guest João Menezes.
Student support: Wilf McKenzie Band
RBC Banda Brasileira is a new large ensemble which explores the many-faceted music of Brazil, from Samba and Baião to the folkloric music from the North East of Brazil - Maracatú, Ijexá and Samba Reggae. We don't forget the sophisticated sound of Bossa Nova which sprung up in the clubs of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1960s.
João Menezes is a Portuguese musician and teacher based in London who specialises in Brazilian Music.
He began his music studies at JB Jazz in Lisbon and later moved to London to study at the acclaimed Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
João found his love for Brazilian music after listening to João Gilberto, and since then he has been developing his repertoire, exploring all the different rhythms of Brazil and performing solo and with his band all around the UK and Europe.
Running time approx. two hours and 30 minutes
