Portrait of the ensemble Propellor

Propellor // Flight

Propellor are a 12-piece ensemble of soaring strings, ambient guitar, double percussion and otherworldly winds, directed by Jack McNeill.

Flight is their latest large-scale production tracing the connections between music, birds, humans and the science inbetween. This is a collaboration with one of the UK’s leading authors on nature Mark Cocker and a host of incredible writers, artists and musicians.

Expect music that tells the stories of astounding bird migrations, how we listen and why it matters, electronic collaborations with artist Leafcutter John, live reactive visuals and spoken word alongside powerful contemporary dance.

“Deeply moving and profoundly beautiful.”
AUDIENCE MEMBER

"It was so different from anything I have experienced, a fascinating collaboration of creatives and ecologists. Beautiful in its complex intensity, I’ve been thinking about it ever since!"
AUDIENCE MEMBER

"Flight is a rare bird –– a fascinating, immersive exploration of birds and people."
ROBERT MACFARLANE

"A mesmeric auditory journey into bird migration, landscape and the art of listening. It bubbles with scientific enquiry, sonic wonder and reflections on our uneasy human coexistence with greater-than-human life. And through it all, tugging at your hand, such vivid new music."
