Marie qualified as a learning disability nurse in 1983 and has worked in a variety of residential and community nursing settings. She is now in higher education as a senior lecturer.

Her areas of teaching are positive behaviour support; which includes applied behaviour analysis, functional analysis and person centred principles, sexuality and sexual health of people with leaning disability, autistic spectrum conditions and mental health and learning disability.

Marie's research explores the use of live simulation using simulated patients (actors portraying people with learning disabilities) in engaging health students and health clinicians in as near to real life scenarios around care of patients with a learning disability who may be seen as challenging.
