Futuristic threads brings science to the fore

Conscientious students from Birmingham City University will be giving a new meaning to 'ethical fashion', at a unique fashion show in Birmingham on Thursday 17 July.

The 'futuristic' fashion designs by post-graduate students will go on display in a 30 minute show-stopping catwalk that will bring science and fashion together, paying homage to Cancer Research's 'vision for the future' in finding a cure for the disease.

Rebecca Russell-Turner, Postgraduate Tutor in Fashion and Textiles at Birmingham City University, said: "This is a student-led fashion show that looks forward and supports the cure for cancer. The aesthetics of the design are technology based and create an optimistic vision for the future both for fashion and science.

"Each student's collection raises issues to do with this, from clothes that light up, to organic motifs and messages and colour being a key indicator to illustrate future optimism for the future of cancer."

The paid for sell-out event will be followed by a raffle presented by Cancer Research's Sonia Pring, which include prizes from high profile brands such as Paul Smith, Clarins and Nicky Clarke.

'Vision for the Future' will take place on Thursday 17 July, 6.30pm at Birmingham City University, The Parkside Building, B4 7BD.
