You’ll be actively encouraged to take part in debates about the professional, educational, political and cultural implications of fashion promotion in modern societies around the world.
You will also explore and use different research methods to investigate the branding and promotion of fashion through marketing, advertising, events management, publicity or public relations.

Did you know that you will soon be able to apply for a postgraduate loan of up to £10,000?
Each postgraduate stage takes 15 weeks full-time or 30 weeks part-time. During all stages the majority of your study-time and effort is devoted to practical and creative studies.
During the Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) stage, emphasis is on your ability to conceive and initiate promotional projects, then develop creative strategies for their realisation. You initially write a Personal Programme of Study (PPS) which outlines your study plans and can be interdisciplinary in nature. You then maintain a diary and give a seminar.
At the end of each stage you’ll present and explain your practical work. Written reports are required to conform to academic conventions – other documentation can be more creative in format. It is necessary to pass each postgraduate stage before progressing to the next.

The Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) stage focuses on developing your ability to manage short promotional projects from conception to realisation. You also write a strategic plan relating to your remaining studies, personal development and career ambitions.
You are introduced to a range of research techniques and resources. You can undertake work placement or experience at this time, or external activities related to your PPS.

For your Master’s you will undertake a single major promotion project, that reflects your PPS, showcases your abilities and ideas and is executed and managed in a professional manner.
You also write a reflective report that encourages you to develop a critical and contextual framework within which to understand your practice. Finally you present an exhibition (or equivalent) that reflects your studies and career goals. Your programme will include a mixture of practical projects and written work.

Our postgraduate fashion promotion course will equip you with the latest knowledge, skills and resources to help you investigate areas of personal and work-based interest.
You’ll develop your studies around your personal career ambitions and enjoy visits to leading fashion events. You can additionally arrange interviews with industry professionals working in fashion promotion in the UK or globally.
As a graduate you’ll be able to apply your knowledge and practical skills to fashion promotion, as well as sophisticated marketing and advertising concepts.
The course focuses on your ability to develop and manage project proposals and studies related to commercial fashion, fashion communication and fashion promotion. You can adopt either an entrepreneurial, academic or creative approach to your studies.
Example projects include fashion magazines or blogs, plans for fashion businesses, marketing strategies. Throughout the course you are encouraged to undertake relevant career planning and research. A series of topical lectures are provided exploring major theories and debates related to the world of fashion and textiles. These are followed by talks from industry practitioners.
Your programme will include a mixture of practical projects and written work. You will develop a portfolio of work that showcases your abilities and ideas and is executed and managed in a professional manner. At each stage you will also write reflective reports that encourage you to develop a critical and contextual framework within which to understand your practice and future career choices. You are assessed using a mixture of tutorial reviews, project work submissions and oral exams.
Our graduates can go on to study for a PhD in related subjects.

Professor Colin Gale is currently Director of Postgraduate Programmes in Fashion and Textiles. From an initial career start in Fine Art he has traversed virtually all of the art, design and media disciplines. He has research interests in high technology, business, cultural studies and has specialist expertise relating to design and craft in East and South East Asia.
Colin has lectured, published and exhibited internationally. He has undertaken a wide range of duties in academia including Course Directorships, managing Academic Schools and Departments and External Examinerships. He also continues to maintain his art practice and specialises in painting and computer art.
