We are pleased to invite you to submit papers to the Annual Birmingham City University Learning and Teaching Futures Conference scheduled for 16 July 2020 at BCU. This Conference is organised by the Academic Practice Team and is a joint effort between the Education Development Service and contributors across the faculties.

Each year at our Learning and Teaching Futures Conference the university comes together to reflect and learn from innovative practice across the faculties and professional services. We welcome presentations from postgraduates, staff and faculty at all levels to present ideas, projects and workshops.

This year we are focusing on BCU as a community and the ways in which our diversity as the University for Birmingham contribute to the success of our students and staff.

We hope to provide a platform for projects and ideas that are shaping a university that works with and for its community as well as embracing the benefits of a multicultural, multiracial and socially diverse institution. We also believe that sharing practice and reflection are the cornerstone of educational development, and with this conference, create a forum for educators to do this.

The conference deliberations are particularly interested in the following themes:

Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education and how it benefits our institution
Bringing Birmingham into the classroom
Inclusive educational resources
Approaches to Inclusion and Diversity training for staff
Innovative Widening Access and Participation Strategies
Approaches to Creating Inclusive Communities
Communities within the university
Classroom Technology for Community Development Practices
Use of technology to promote inclusion
University and Industry cooperation and diversifying the workforce

Guide for submissions

Types of Contributions

Presentation
20 minutes (15 mins + 5 for questions)
Each presentation will last 15 minutes and will be presented in parallel thematic sessions. These sessions usually propose, present or discuss the impact of an idea or project, with less interaction (though you may do it differently!)

Workshop/Masterclass
25 minutes (25 mins + questions throughout)
Each workshop or masterclass will be conducted in parallel thematic sessions and will be expected to be somewhat interactive.

The abstract should be 300 words or fewer and provide some details of the content of your presentation or workshop
