Piano en pointe
Relax in the Recital Hall as year 12 Students from Elmhurst Ballet School present an exciting evening of ballet, accompanied by BMus 4 pianist Sarah Potjewijd.
With a programme consisting of selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and much more, Piano en pointe aims to highlight technical artistry from both dancers and musicians.
Elmhurst Ballet School, located in Edgbaston, is a prestigious vocational dance school associated with Birmingham Royal Ballet. Elmhurst and RBC have run a successful Ballet Pianist Placement Scheme since 2018, but this is the first public performance to arise from it.
Sarah Potjewijd took part in the placement scheme in her third year and is now working as a staff pianist at Elmhurst. Inspired by the work of fellow ballet pianists at both Elmhurst and Birmingham Royal Ballet, along with her time at Conservatoire accompanying singers and instrumentalists, this performance celebrates her love of collaborative pianism.
Running time approx. one hour and 30 minutes
