Fuyao Li is an experimental violist and keen chamber viola player with various ensembles in the United Kingdom, Denmark and China. Born in China, Fuyao has been awarded prizes in competitions including, London Young Musician Competition (UK), MUSE Music Competition (Greece) and Charleston Spring Music Competition (USA). He has been invited to music festivals over the past few years such as Brisbane Music Festival, Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, Harbin Summer Music Festival and Tianjin May Music Festival.
Having completed his Postgraduate degree at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2021 under Professor Lars Anders Tomter, Fuyao continues to pursue the Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Music at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, currently under the supervision of Louise Lansdown.
Fuyao focuses on viola performance and teaching practice by taking roles including, Principal Viola of New Kyushu Philharmonic Orchestra to tour for over ten cities in China and viola teacher within ARCO Project in South Africa.
Any donations made over and above this evening’s ticket price will be directed towards the Gwyn Williams Bursary Fund at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Founded by Stephannie Williams in memory of her late husband Gwyn Williams, former Principal Viola of the CBSO, the Fund supports Conservatoire viola students who are in financial need.
