Hong Kong, a land of many stories and many emotions. The human touch, the fusion of cultures, the heartbreaks… all of which are etched into the Cantopop songs of Hong Kong. To some they are echoes of the past, and to others they are havens for a soul adrift in this world. And to those who crossed the continent to the Isle in the west for various reasons, perhaps these songs reminded them of a distant past before the imminence of that fateful summer.
This concert is a fruition of a certain Hong Konger’s reminiscence of his home city. By transforming his favourite Cantopop songs into concert paraphrases for keyboard duets, he hopes to share his thoughts about that Pearl in the Orient which he used to call home. The exuberance, the pathos, the nostalgia in the music are all aftertastes of a wanderer in a diaspora.
