The Doris (originally Doris and Irene) Newton Music Club Prize is open to the winners of the nine sections of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Prize. The adjudication panel consists of Midlands professional musicians, music critics, broadcasters and representatives of local music clubs.
A prize of £200 is awarded to the winner who may also be offered engagements by local music clubs. A prize of £50, The Rollason Music Award, is given to the runner-up.
Following the death of Miss Newton in 2000, the Prize was perpetuated through a donation of £10,000 in her will.
