Life-saving surgery for teacher

UNIVERSITY NEWS LAST UPDATED : 09 AUGUST

This year Eilish, the partner of RBC alumnus Ryan Probert, was diagnosed with a potentially fatal condition stemming from child abuse.

The condition is rare and there are only five surgeons in the world who can provide treatment with any amount of success. The NHS procedure has a 30% chance of success.

The cost of Eilish’s surgery in the USA is over $40,000 (£29,000). However, a reputable surgeon in Turkey was able to perform the same surgery for $18,000 (£13,000). Eilish had the surgery recently and is recovering well.

A GoFundMe page has been launched to help pay for the costs of the life-critical surgery, reaching over half of its target within two days. Ryan would appreciate any support for the fundraiser, either by sharing the campaign or by making a donation.

Ryan said: “It’s heartening to have hundreds of people, many of whom are strangers, get our back during this difficult time.”
