Postgraduate soprano Ella Blair has been offered a place at the internationally renowned Vienna State Opera.

She will join the prestigious Chorakademie programme, marking a major step forward in her career.

The programme provides intensive professional training for emerging artists, offering performance opportunities alongside the opera house’s chorus and extra chorus, as well as individual and group tuition led by top vocal coaches.

Her successful audition for the Vienna State Opera took place in March following a rigorous application process. She will relocate to Austria later this year, joining a select group of young artists from across Europe.

Originally trained in musical theatre and choral singing, Ella began focusing on opera during her studies at RBC. Over the past two years, she has gained extensive experience through operas and opera scenes, competitions, masterclasses and international study opportunities, including a placement in Padova, Italy.

Ella will take part in several of Vienna State Opera’s upcoming productions, including Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio).

Ella said: “Vienna State Opera is one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world and I can’t quite believe that I will be learning from some of the very best in the industry. I grew up spending summers at my family home in Austria, so the country holds a special place in my heart.

“I have grabbed every opportunity I have been offered at RBC, and we have been encouraged to audition for as much as possible, which has been so helpful for building my confidence.

“As well as advancing my career I am excited to experience and explore a new culture, lifestyle and new places.”
