One of the finest cornet players of his generation, Richard Marshall has been Principal Cornet of Black Dyke Band since 2006. As a soloist, he has travelled to America, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand and several European countries, and has performed solos in the world’s finest concert venues, such as Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall. As a recording artist, he has performed on numerous brass band CDs.

The recipient of many awards, at the age of 19, Richard became principal cornet of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, a position he held for 10 years. He was awarded the Soloist prize at the Brass in Concert Championship on three occasions. His debut solo CD, The Debutante was released in 1998 - the first of four solo CDs, two of which have ben voted 'Solo CD of the Year' (in 2005 and 2007) by British Bandsman and 4barsrest.

He currently teaches cornet at Birmingham Conservatoire, as well as at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
