Tom qualified as an Adult Nurse in 2001 from Northumbria University and has a clinical background in Emergency Care, having worked in this setting for 22 years.

He has worked in a variety of positions including 6 years as a Clinical Educator. This role involved providing training to all members of the Emergency Department team and supporting Newly Qualified Nurses in their transition to practice.

During this time, he was the Student and Placement Lead, training and supporting second and third-year Student Nurses in practice.

Working within a Major Trauma Centre a large focus of training was on the treatment and management of Major Trauma patients running regular study days. He was also involved in MDT Simulation for ED staff.

He has a keen interest in all aspects of Emergency Care with a particular focus on the management of patient deterioration and Resuscitation.

Tom started at Birmingham City University in October 2023 and is working with the team on NUR 5078 Complex Care Assessing and Planning.

During his career, he has also been the ED Major Incident lead and has written and updated Trust protocols and worked independently as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner.
