Jayne initially qualified as a General Nurse in 1988 and a Children’s Nurse in 1991 and has a wealth of nursing experience. She has enjoyed the opportunity to work in Birmingham, London and Sydney in a variety of specialist areas including Paediatric Intensive Care (PICU), Accident and Emergency, General Paediatrics, Burns, Liver Transplantation & Complex Community Nursing.

Jayne is passionate about delivering the highest quality care for patients and families; and values the opportunity to support undergraduate nursing students to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to fearlessly embrace the challenges that a career in nursing offers.

Her areas of teaching expertise include children’s intensive care and high dependency nursing. Jayne completed a post graduate qualification in these areas and gained clinical expertise in these areas whilst working at Great Ormond Street and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Following 15 years’ experience in the clinical area she undertook a full time Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Further and Higher). This provided her with the knowledge and skills required to offer the highest quality teaching and learning experiences for students at Birmingham City University. Jayne feels privileged to work in partnership with student nurses and provide the pastoral and academic support they need to be successful on the nursing programme.

As a lifelong learner herself she values every learning experience she is presented with and has enjoyed many adventures both nationally and internationally, including conferences in Madrid and Shanghai.

Jayne was awarded a Master’s degree in Research from Birmingham University in 2018.
