A Birmingham City University student is celebrating after receiving an award at the Student Nursing Times Awards.
Patricia Stringfellow was awarded the Student Children’s Nurse of the Year award, after judges said she is “passionate, enthusiastic and a great advocate for both the child and family.”
The Student Nursing Times Awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate the drive and commitment of those who go the extra mile, and are the only awards to celebrate the very best in student nurses and nurse education.
This year Birmingham City University received an all-time high of 14 nominations, including Student Nurse of the Year in the Child, Learning Disabilities and Mental Health categories. The University was also shortlisted in Educator of the Year and Nurse Education Provider of the Year award categories.
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony held last night (Thursday 26 April) in Mayfair, London.
Professor Philip Plowden, Vice-Chancellor at Birmingham City University, said: “We couldn’t be more proud of our students who have been recognised at this year’s Student Nursing Times Awards. To receive a record number of 14 nominations was fantastic alone, but to go on and win an award too is phenomenal.”
Nursing Times and Student Nursing Times Editor, Jenni Middleton, added: “The Student Nursing Times Awards are always very special. Every year I am impressed by the standard of the students who enter - they demonstrate all the hard work, intelligence, enthusiasm, passion and skill we want to see in our future workforce.”
Covering Adult Nursing, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, Midwifery and Child Health, Birmingham City University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery offers students cutting-edge learning facilities including state-of-the-art lecture theatres and seminar rooms, mock wards, birthing rooms, operating theatres and virtual reality software.
The University also provides opportunities for students to travel abroad and observe nursing practise in other countries to gain a global outlook on their profession.
