Timbre and Colour in French Music – a Symposium

Supported by the New Berlioz Edition Trust

As the academic centrepiece to RBC’s French Season, the French Music Research Hub is hosting a symposium exploring Timbre and Colour in French Music. This two-day event will include academic papers, performances, and round table discussions drawing on the wide-ranging specialisms in French music of RBC research staff.

The Symposium will also feature two concerts of French music in RBC’s Bradshaw Hall:

  • an orchestra concert on the Thursday evening (20 February) including the UK premiere of Berlioz’s orchestration of Meyer’s Marche marocaine
  • a rare opportunity to hear Boulez’s scintillating Sur incises on the Friday lunchtime

Registration for the Symposium covers access to all events, including tickets for both concerts, as well as refreshments and lunch on Friday.

See further information about the symposium.

Thanks to generous support from the New Berlioz Edition Trust, we can offer up to ten bursaries for students, early career and independent scholars lacking institutional support.
