Tess Jackson conductor

Vaughan Williams Prelude to 49th Parallel
Williams Hymn to the Fallen
Walton Spitfire Prelude and Fugue
Carwithen Men of Sherwood Forest Overture

Patriotic, poignant and pastoral, RBC Symphony Orchestra collects together a film music selection on war themes.  Walton’s heroic music for The First of Few contrasts with the noble character of Vaughan Williams’s Prelude, and John Williams’s Hymn to the Fallen which it clearly influenced. Doreen Carwithen’s swashbuckling and folk-inspired music accompanied a 1954 film of Robin Hood’s adventures.

Running time approx. one hour
