RBC Brass Band Day

in association with Conn Selmer

Brass players of all ages are invited to join us for a fun-filled day of music-making led by RBC’s Director of Brass Band Studies, Ian Porthouse.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with Ian on test pieces for the upcoming 3rd and 4th section Regional Qualifying Contests, playing alongside Conservatoire musicians.

The day will conclude with a performance by the RBC Brass Band, featuring special guest soloist Thomas Fountain, Principal Trumpet of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

The planned schedule is as follows:

09.30am onwards- arrival and sign in.

10am Workshop 1, focusing on Indian Summer by Eric Ball.

11.30am Brass band discussion and Q & A, led by Paul Fisher and Ian Porthouse.

12pm Lunch break.

1pm Workshop 2, focusing on Three Haworth Impressions by Gordon Langford.

2.45pm Masterclass with Thomas Fountain.

5pm Concert by the RBC Brass Band and Ian Porthouse, featuring guest soloist Thomas Fountain.

6pm Ends.

A trade stand will be present at the event.

Please note that we would recommend that participants have reached a minimum of Grade 5 standard on their instrument.
