Nick Manz piano
Nick Manz is a Birmingham-based jazz pianist whose playing has been praised by critics as ‘exciting, absolutely brilliant’ (Ayanna Witter-Johnson), with ‘rapid, shimmering pianism and virtuosic melodic fluency’ (Planet Hugill). He was a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician 2022 competition, performing at the Southbank Centre London with Mark and Michael Mondesir. The final brought together the ‘rising stars of the UK jazz scene’ (BBC Head of Arts and Classical Music).
Nick attended the Junior Department at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire before moving to the Netherlands to take up a place at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, studying with Rob van Bavel. He was then offered a scholarship place at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he currently studies with John Turville.
Artistic influences include Sullivan Fortner, Kenny Kirkland and Olivier Messiaen. The concert intersperses the jazz standards of the past with newer compositions and freeform melodies, reflective of the moment and the mood of the room.
Running time, approx. 60 minutes with no interval.
