Chopin dedicated his life to the piano repertoire.  Through his compositions, he made an artform out of the study, created the idea of a ballade, popularised the nocturne and updated the prelude.  We’ll hear wonderful examples of each of these in today’s Lunchtime Music, from the tender to the playful, and the virtuosic.

Haoen Li (pictured) is a Chinese pianist currently studying in his second year on the undergraduate course at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He began his journey with the piano at the age of eight, and it has been a defining passion ever since.

He played euphonium in orchestra during his junior school, going on to spend three years studying in the Xinghai Conservatory of Music Affiliated Middle School in China. His formative teacher in China was Jing Ouyang, he currently studies with Daniel Browell.
