Ian Clarke

Ian Clarke is acknowledged as one of the leading player/composers in the flute world. His innovative compositions are performed extensively across the globe and he has performed as a featured guest soloist and teacher at major conventions, including in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Iceland, Japan, France (2022), Germany (2023), and NFA (2024) where he premiered new flute and concert band arrangements of several Clarke works. Indeed, the last 25 years has seen appearances for USA and British Flute Societies including the premiere of his concerto for flute & strings at the 2017 NFA.

2023 saw the publication of A Winged Brocade and 2024 Soft Rain and White Staircase. His acclaimed CD Within has been one the flute world’s best sellers and his album Deep Blue reached the top 10 in the UK Classical Artist Chart; thought to be a first for an album of original flute music.

He has given masterclasses at many of the leading music conservatoires in countries around the globe. In his career he has performed in genres ranging from classical opera to a guest appearance with rock group Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson. Through a myriad of flute events including international flute courses Grolloo Flute Sessions, Scotland and the USA, Ian has enjoyed working with all ages and stages in flute-land and beyond.

For many years Ian collaborated with musician / composer Simon Painter writing and producing music for film & television. He is a professor of flute at the Guildhall School and an international Miyazawa artist.
