Chris potter with Pablo Held Trio

Chris Potter with the Pablo Held Trio

Chris Potter is without doubt one of the strongest voices in the USA on tenor and soprano saxophones. He has been a member of bands led by Dave Holland, Paul Motian and Dave Douglas as well as leading his own projects.

His recent recording is on the UK Edition Records and is a live recording from The Village Vanguard made in 2022 with a heavyweight group with Craig Taborn (piano), Scott Colley (bass) and Marcus Gilmore (drums). He worked with a large ensemble of Conservatoire students in 2012 to rehearse a chamber jazz suite which was then performed at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

The Pablo Held Trio is one of the most lively and significant formations on the contemporary European jazz scene, revealed for their empathic interplay, musical risk-taking and improvisational skills.

Their performances are thrilling and unpredictable, constantly pushing the boundaries of improvisation and composition. This has earned them the admiration of audiences, critics and jazz greats. Ralph Towner hailed the Pablo Held Trio as an “important example of the evolution of the piano trio in jazz” and John Scofield called them “one of the great bands in music today”

The trio is joined master saxophonist Chris Potter, to celebrate 20 Years of Pablo Held Trio on a big tour through Europe. Linking up with Chris is a real coup, and something really special will undoubtedly happen tonight.

As part of Eastside Jazz Festival.
