Birmingham Conservatoire develops close partnership with music festival

UNIVERSITY NEWS LAST UPDATED : 12 OCTOBER 2012

For the second year running, Stratford on Avon Music Festival is closely collaborating with students at Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University.

The Festival, which runs from 13 – 21 October, this year follows an ‘In Tune with Nature’ theme and features some of the biggest names in classical music and jazz.

Several compositions by Birmingham Conservatoire students will be performed at the Festival, which is being headlined by international soprano, Lesley Garrett.

Daniel Fardon, a composition student at Birmingham Conservatoire, said: “Having my music played is very rewarding as a composer. Three short character sketches from an opera of mine are being performed by the Castalian String Quartet.

“Being involved in a festival is always an engaging experience and I couldn’t think of a better location to celebrate music than in the picturesque town of Stratford!”

Nigel Phillips, Festival Chairman, said: “We are thrilled to welcome international star Lesley Garrett to the Festival for the first time. Look out too for exciting, short new works by young composers from Birmingham Conservatoire.”
